The most basic and probably the most regularly made smoothie is banana smoothie. That’s the smoothie I make regularly at home, ’cause it’s very easy to make, yet it’s extremely delicious.
But, from time to time I like to experiment by adding different fruits and/or other ingredients. It’s kiwi fruits that I usually add. They add to the taste without ruining the balance. Bananas are still dominant because of their strong flavors. Basically, that’s the basis for this particular smoothie, which I named Purple Haze smoothie.
So, how come it’s so purple? – you’re probably wondering… Well, I added grape juice from grape compote. It does contribute to taste, but not too much (yeah, bananas are still dominant :) ). Yet, it delivers this beautiful pale purple colour, which makes the drink even more appealing. There’s no need to say that you’ll fall in love with it at the very first sip.
Here’s a (rough) recipe:
- 2 bananas
- 2 kiwi fruits
- 5 oz – milk
- 4-5 oz – juice from grape compote
Peel bananas and kiwi fruits, slice them and add to blender. Add milk and blend for about 10 seconds. Now add juice from grape compote and blend for a few more seconds. That’s it – pour into glasses and serve. This recipe yields about two bigger glasses.
I have to add just a few notes: it might happen that your compote is more or less sweet than the one I used, so it’s better to rely on your own taste concerning the quantity of grape juice. Also, if you don’t like the density of the final result, feel free to adjust it to your own taste by using more or less milk (if you want lighter drink, add more milk in second blending stage).
Final comment – if you want your smoothie to be cold and refreshing, put a few ice cubes in a blender and crush them (blend on high speed for a second or two). Then continue with adding ingredients, as described above. But, please make sure your blender is capable of crushing ice before you do that!

Thanks for sharing, I found this story while googling for song lyrics, thoughtful comments and great points made.
thanks!
I hope you try and make it, too ;)
btw, I have to admit that Jimi passed thru my mind while I was writing this post :) although I can’t imagine him drinking a smoothie :) :) :)
